The chevrotain, also known as mouse deer, is a small even-toed ungulate that make up the family Tragulidae

Quick facts Chevrotain Temporal range: Early Oligocene – Recent, Scientific classification ...

Mouse deer live in Asia. They are about the size of a hare, with short, thin legs. They are the smallest animal with hooves. They stamp their small feet to signal to each other. Mouse deer are extremely nervous. Mouse deer have little fangs. When they are surprised, they freeze immediately, and then run away in a zig-zag through the forest.[1] Most species of mouse deer only eat plants, but one species of mouse deer, called the water chevrotain, sometimes eats bugs or meat that they find.
