The Lamniformes (/ˈlæmnɪfɔːrmiːz/, from Greek lamna "fish of prey") are an order of sharks. They are commonly known as mackerel sharks. The order include the Great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias),[1] Basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus) and Shortfin mako shark (Isurus paucus) from example.
Extinct family include the Otodontidae and Cretoxyrhinidae. This family include the famous megatoothed shark Carcharocles megalodon of Neogene[2] and the Ginsu shark (Cretoxyrhina mantelli) of Early and Late Cretaceous, with several others now extinct.[3][4]
