Katsunari Miyai (宮井 勝成, Miyai Katsunari, 14 April 1926[1] – 7 August 2020) was a Japanese baseball manager. He was the manager of the baseball clubs of Waseda Jitsugyo and Chuo University.[2] He was the only person to manage the winning teams of a Kōshien tournament and the Meiji Jingu Baseball Tournament.[1]
He was from Suginami, Tokyo.[1] He studied at Waseda Jitsugyo and Chuo University.[1] He played in the Japanese High School Baseball Invitational Tournament in 1941.[1] He was an outfielder for the Chuo University Baseball Team.[1]
In 1954, he became the baseball coach of his alma mater Waseda Jitsugyo.[1] He became the manager in 1955.[2] In 1957, the team won the 29th Japanese High School Baseball Invitational Tournament.[1] From 1959 to 1993, he was the manager of the Chuo University Baseball Team.[1] The team won one Meiji Jingu Baseball Tournament in 1974 and three Japan National Collegiate Baseball Championships in 1972, 1973, and 1979.[2][3] They also won eight Tohto University Baseball League championships.[4] He was the team's general manager from 1994 until his death.[2][5]
He died in Mitaka, Tokyo of lung cancer on 7 August 2020, aged 94.[2][4][5]
His daughter Fumiko (芙美子) married baseball player Toshimitsu Suetsugu.[6]
