Jonathan Demme

Robert Jonathan Demme (February 22, 1944 – April 26, 2017) was an American filmmaker. He was born in Baldwin, New York. He was best known for directing The Silence of the Lambs, for which he won an Academy Award. He directed and co-produced Philadelphia and Rachel Getting Married.

His nephew Ted Demme (1963–2002) was a filmmaker.
On April 26, 2017, Demme died in New York City at the age of 73 due to complications from esophageal cancer and heart disease.[1]
