The Gagauz people are a Turkic peoples ethnic group, descendants of Pechenegs and Cumans native to the Autonomous Region of Gagauzia in Moldova.[1] They speak Gagauz, a Turkic language, as mother tongue. Unlike the other Turkic peoples who are predominantly Muslims, Gagauz people are adherents of the Eastern Orthodox Church. Most Gagauz people live in Moldova, followed by Ukraine, Turkey and Russia.[2]
