Carolina Herrera is a Venezuelan American fashion designer. Known for her elegant style, she started her fashion brand in 1980. Herrera has dressed several First Ladies, including Jacqueline Onassis, Laura Bush, Michelle Obama, and Melania Trump.[2][3]

Early Life

Herrera was born on 8 January 1939 in Caracas, Venezuela.[4][1]

Career

In 1980, Herrera launched her first fashion line with support from Diana Vreeland, then Editor-in-Chief of Vogue. She showcased her first collection in Manhattan at the Metropolitan Club, which received positive reviews.[5]

Awards and Honors

Herrera has won many awards, including the 2004 "Womenswear Designer of the Year" and the 2008 Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.[6] She also received Spain's Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts in 2002 and the Fashion Group International Superstar Award in 2012.[7]
