Joseph Melton James (October 3, 1939 – August 27, 2020) was an American professional wrestler. In 2011, he was honored into the WWE Hall of Fame. He wrestled for the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA).

In his 50 year career, Armstrong held many championships throughout the Southeastern United States. He was born in Marietta, Georgia.
His four sons, Joseph, Robert Bradley, Steve and Brian, all became wrestlers.
Armstrong died on August 27, 2020 in Pensacola, Florida from bone cancer at the age of 80.[3]
