Bass Reeves

Bass Reeves (16 July 1838 - 12 January 1910) was an African American sheriff in Arkansas, who brought in hundreds of convicts. He was born as a slave, but then escaped his abusive master. He was one of the first African Americans to work in law enforcement west of the Mississippi River.[1]
