Auto–rickshaws are modernized versions of the rickshaw. They are common in Asia. They have three wheels and generally have open sides. They are often hired like taxis in cities for short journeys. The drivers sits in the front and there is room for 2 passengers. There are also types which carry goods. The first ones were built by Mazda in the 1930s.[1]

Names
Around the world, auto–rickshaws have different names like cocotaxi in Cuba, or Mototaxi in Peru, Tuktuk in India.
