The arrondissement of Cognac is an arrondissement of France, in the Charente department, Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. Its capital is the city of Cognac.

When the Charente department was created on 1800, the arrondissement of Cognac was part of that original department.[2]
The arrondissement of Cognac is the smallest arrondissement of the department with an area of 1,471.2 km2 (568.0 sq mi).[3] It has 92,224 inhabitants and a density of 62.7 inhabitants/km².[4]
The arrondissement of Cognac is in western Charente and is bordered to the north by the arrondissement of Confolens, to the east by the arrondissement of Angoulême and to the south and west by the Charente-Maritime department.
After the reorganisation of the cantons in France,[5] cantons are not subdivisions of the arrondissements so they could have communes that belong to different arrondissements.
In the arrondissement of Cognac, there are three cantons where not all their "communes" are in the arrondissement: Charente-Sud, Tude-et-Lavalette and Val de Nouère. The following table shows the distribution of the "communes" in the cantons and arrondissements:
