Anna Diggs Taylor

Anna Katherine Johnston Diggs Taylor (Anna Katherine Johnston; December 9, 1932 – November 4, 2017) was an American judge. She served as United States District Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan from 1979 through 1998. She was born Washington, D.C..

In 1979, she was appointed to the federal bench by President Jimmy Carter, becoming the first black woman judge appointed to the Eastern District of Michigan.

She became Chief Judge in 1997, and took senior status in 1998.^[1]

Taylor died on November 4, 2017 of complications from Parkinson's disease in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan at the age of 84.^[2]
