Alan Erwin Ball (born May 13, 1957)[1] is an American writer, movie director and producer. He was born in Atlanta, Georgia and is openly gay.[2]

Ball wrote American Beauty, for which he won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award. He created, wrote and produced Six Feet Under (for which he won an Emmy Award) and True Blood.
