They appear in the Nihon Shoki.[2] They used to be worshipped in the Imperial palace.[3] But Emperor Sujin was disturbed by the presence of both Yamato Okunitama and Amaterasu Omikami at his palace, and promoted Amaterasu over him.[4] [5][6][2] This may be why Amaterasu is the main kami in Shinto today.[4]
