Tyro is a city in Montgomery County, Kansas, United States. In 2020, 177 people lived there.[3]

Tyro was planned out in the fall of 1886 when the Denver, Memphis & Atlantic railroad was first extended to that point.[4] It was named from the English word tyro, which also means "beginner" or "novice".[5][6]
Tyro was incorporated as a city in 1906.[7]
Tyro is at 37°2′9″N 95°49′18″W (37.035742, -95.821679).[8] The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.46 square miles (1.19 km2). All of it is land.[2]
The 2020 census says that there were 177 people, 72 households, and 51 families living in Tyro. Of the households, 88.9% owned their home and 11.1% rented their home.
The median age was 39.9 years. Of the people, 85.3% were White, 5.6% were Native American, 1.1% were Black, 0.6% were from some other race, and 7.3% were two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.1% of the people.[3][9]
The 2010 census says that there were 220 people, 88 households, and 61 families living in Tyro.[10]
