The Istana (English: The Palace) is the main home for Singapore's president. It is located on Orchard Road, a popular shopping area in Singapore. It was designed and built by John Frederick Adolphus McNair in 1869. The Istana was first used by the governor of Singapore and it used to be called Government House. The residential house became a national monument in 1992.[1]
