The genus contains the type and only species Scleromochlus taylori. It was named by Arthur Smith Woodward in 1907.[1]
A 2022 tomographic scan of seven specimens suggests its true position was in the Pterosauromorpha, that is, it was a pterosaur relation.[2][3]
