Nad Tatrou sa blýska
national anthem / From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Nad Tatrou sa blýska" (say: nat TAH-troh sah BLEE-skah, meaning "Lightning O'er the Tatras") is the national anthem of Slovakia. When Slovakia, along with Czechia, was part of the former country of Czechoslovakia, parts of this anthem was played along the Czech national anthem "Kde domov můj". The words of the song were written in 1844 by Janko Matúška, and the melody of the song comes from a Slovak folk song called "Kopala studienku".[1]
