Maxwell Trowbridge "Max" Gail, Jr.[1] (born April 5, 1943) is an American actor. He has starred in stage, television, and movie roles. He most known for his role as Detective Stan "Wojo" Wojciehowicz on the television sitcom Barney Miller.

Gail was born in Detroit, Michigan.[1] He was raised in Grosse Ile, Michigan. Gail studied at Williams College and at University Liggett School.
Gail's first wife, Willie Bier, died of cancer in 1986. They have a daughter, India. He married his second wife, Nan in 1989. They have two children, Maxwell and Grace. Gail has a twin sister, actress Mary Gail.
Gail recently starred in the 2013 biopic movie 42.
