The Wəlastəkwewiyik or Maliseet or Malecite were a Native American group of people of the Northeastern Woodlands. They spoke Algonquian and were a First Nation. They were part of the Wabanaki Confederacy. The region includes Quebec, New Brunswick and parts of Maine. Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians of Maine is a federally recognized Maliseet tribe in the United States. It is considered one the first foreign allies of the United States.
