American dance From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lindy Hop is an American dance. It started in Harlem, New York City in the 1920s and 1930s. It was originally associated with jazz and tap dance. It was popular from the 1920s to the 1940s. The Lindy Hop was a mixture of many dances before it, like the Charleston, tap and breakaway dances.
Frankie Manning helped develop the dance.[1]
Lindy Hop today is danced as a social, competitive or performance dance. It is also sometimes called a street dance.
