The town is between the cities of Halle, about 19 kilometres (12 miles) in the southwest, Leipzig, about 25 kilometres (16 miles) in the southeast, and Bitterfeld-Wolfen, about 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) in the north.The oldest known trace of early settlements in what is now Landsberg dates from the Neolithic.[2]
