Han Kuo-yu

Daniel Han Kuo-yu[2] (Chinese: 韓國瑜; pinyin: Hán Guóyú; born 17 June 1957) is a Taiwanese politician. He was a member of the Legislative Yuan from 1993 to 2002, representing a portion of Taipei County for three terms. He later became general manager of Taipei Agricultural Products Marketing Corporation.

This is a Chinese name; the family name is Han.

In 2017, Han ran for the Kuomintang chairmanship, losing to Wu Den-yih. Han was elected Mayor of Kaohsiung in November 2018, and became the first Kuomintang politician since Wu in 1998 to hold the office. In July 2019, Han became the 2020 Kuomintang nominee for President of the Republic of China, facing incumbent Tsai Ing-wen.[3][4]

Han was removed from office as the mayor of Kaohsiung on 12 June 2020 after a recall election. He was the first Taiwanese politician to ever be removed from office by a recall.[5]

Han won with 54 votes to become the President of the Legislative Yuan in 2024.
