There are 85 species. Fossils of gekkos date back to the Eocene.[2]
Gekkos eat flies and other insects. Their extraordinary feet have thousands of tiny hairs. They can walk up vertical walls quite easily.
They often live in buildings in the tropics. They do not tolerate other gekkos in their territory.
