The Capibaribe River is a watercourse that bathes the Brazilian state of Pernambuco.[1] Its course is divided into high and medium courses, located in the Polígono das Secas, where the river has a temporary regime, and the low course, where it becomes perennial, starting in the municipality of Limoeiro, in the wild of the state. Before emptying into the Atlantic Ocean, it passes through the city center of Recife.[2]
It is he who is given voice in the poem "O Rio", by João Cabral de Melo Neto.[3] His family lived for years near the banks of the Capibaribe, where the poet used to play.[3]
