Beaufort (pronounced /ˈboʊfərt/) is a town in Carteret County, North Carolina, United States. It was established in 1722, which makes it the fourth-oldest town in North Carolina.[1][2]
In 2020, 4,464 people lived in Beaufort.[3] The town is the county seat of Carteret County.[4] It is sometimes confused with Beaufort in South Carolina. However, the two names are pronounced differently.
Beaufort is in North Carolina's Inner Banks region. The North Carolina Maritime Museum is in Beaufort.
