Alistair Maclean Darling, Baron Darling of Roulanish PC (28 November 1953 – 30 November 2023) was a British Labour Party politician who was the Chancellor of the Exchequer[1] from June 2007 to May 2010 and also held several posts in Tony Blair's government. He was the Member of Parliament for Edinburgh South West.
Alistair Darling was born in London.[2] He was first elected to the House of Commons at the 1987 General Election. His government posts under Tony Blair include: Chief Secretary to the Treasury (1997–1998), Secretary of State for Work and Pensions (1998–2002), Transport Secretary (2002–2006), Scottish Secretary (2003–2006), Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (2006–2007), and Chancellor of the Exchequer (2007–2010).
Alistair Darling died on 30 November 2023 after a short illness, at the age of 70.[3][4] Gordon Brown, Keir Starmer, Jeremy Hunt and David Cameron were among those who paid tribute to him.
