The 2001 southern Peru earthquake happened on Saturday, June 23, 2001 at around 3:30 PM local time. It had a magnitude of 8.4. It was felt by many parts of southern Peru, a country in South America. It is one of the deadliest earthquakes ever recorded in Peru.
