Mundus (latinski: mundus = "svet", "ukras", cf. grčki: κόσμος) bio je u starom Rimu naziv za jedan okrugli otvor u zemlji, tzv. mundus Cereris,[1][2] čiji je gornji deo bio zatvoren i kroz koji je ― kako se smatralo ― vodio put u podzemni svet. Ovaj je mundus obično bio zatvoren i ritualno se otvarao (mundus patet) u samo tri navrata tokom jedne godine: 24. avgusta, 5. oktobra i 8. novembra.[3]
U najstarijim Fastima ti su dani bili označeni kao C(omitiales), tj. dani u koje su se sastajale komicije,[4] što bi značilo da je ceo taj ritual otvaranja možda tek kasnije primljen od Grka (u kojem se slučaju može uporediti s "danom otvaranja pitosa" na atinskim Antesterijama).[5] Međutim, Makrobije navodi da su Katon i Varon te dane smatrali "religijskim" (religiosi).[6] Kad bi bio otvoren, u taj otvor prinošene su žrtve bogovima donjeg sveta, posebno Cereri, boginji plodne zemlje. Taj je otvor predstavljao prolaz između gornjeg i donjeg sveta, i po obliku je navodno predstavljao izokrenuti nebeski svod.
Nije sigurno da je taj otvor identičan s otvorom u zemlji koji je prilikom polaganja temelja za grad Rim iskopao Romul na Komiciju (ili na Palatinu) i u koji je položio grudu zemlje i prve plodove.[7][8]
