Antalya (frae Greek "Αττάλεια" - Attaleia) is a ceety on the Mediterranean coast o soothwastren Turkey, an the caipital ceety o Antalya Province. Situatit on coastal cliffs, Antalya is surroondit bi muntains. Development an investment, begun in the 1970s, hae transformed the ceety intae an internaitional resort.
Accordin tae tradition, in the 2nt century BC, the Pergamum king Attalos II ordered his men tae fynd "heaven on earth". Efter an extensive search, they discovered the region o Antalya. King Attalos rebuilt the cieety, givin it the name "Attaleia" (Greek: Αττάλεια) which later mutatit in Turkish as Adalia an then Antalya. Attaleia wis an aa the name o a festival at Delphi[1] an Attalis (Greek: Ἀτταλίς) wis the name o an auncient Greek tribe at Athens.[2]
