Jonathan Scott Frakes (Bellefonte, 19 de agosto de 1952) é um ator e diretor americano. Mais conhecido por seu papel de comandante William T. Riker na série de televisão Jornada nas Estrelas: A Nova Geração e nos filmes seguintes. Jonathan também apresentou a série Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction, que desafiava a audiência a distinguir histórias inventadas de fatos documentados. Em janeiro de 2011, Jonathan narrou o documentário Lee and Grant, do Canal History. Ele também dublou o personagem David Xanatos, da série da Disney Gargoyles e dublou a si mesmo, como uma cabeça em um jarro na série animada Futurama, no episódio "Where No Fan Has Gone Before".

Jonathan dirigiu e estrelou o filme Star Trek: First Contact, bem como Star Trek: Insurrection. É também o autor do livro chamado The Abductors: Conspiracy.[1] Em 2004 dirigiu Thunderbirds, versão cinematográfica da telessérie animada da década de 1960.

É casado com a atriz Genie Francis, desde 1988.

Vida pessoal

Jonathan nasceu em Bellefonte, tendo crescido em Bethlehem, ambos na Pensilvânia, filho de Doris J. e Dr. James R. Frakes, uma família parte alemã, parte inglesa.[2] Formado no ensino médio em 1970, ele tocou com a banda da escola, a Liberty High School Grenadier Band.[3] Tem bacharelado em Artes pela Universidade Estadual da Pensilvânia.

Seu pai era crítico do New York Times Book Review, editor de livros e professor de Literatura Inglesa na Lehigh University de 1958 a 2001, tendo falecido no ano seguinte.[4] Jonathan tem um irmão mais novo, Daniel, que faleceu em 1997 de câncer no pâncreas.[5]

Jonathan conheceu a esposa Genie Francis no set da novela Bare Essence e depois ao filmar a minissérie North and South. Começaram a namorar em 1985, noivaram no ano seguinte e se casaram em 28 de maio de 1988, tendo dois filhos.[6]

Carreira

Nos anos 70, Jonathan trabalhou na Marvel Comics, aparecendo em convenções fantasiado de Capitão América.[7] Depois de se mudar para Nova York, tornou-se membro da companhia teatral Impossible Ragtime Theater, onde fez sua primeira atuação na peça The Hairy Ape, dirigida por George Ferencz. Sua primeira atuação na Broadway foi no musical Shenandoah. Ao mesmo tempo, estreou na novela The Doctors.[6] Quando seu personagem foi dispensado da novela, ele se mudou para Los Angeles, atuando em papéis pequenos em várias séries de TV dos anos 70 e 80, como The Dukes of Hazzard antes de ser escolhido para o papel do comandante William T. Riker em Star Trek: The Next Generation.[8]

Jonathan dirigiu vários episódios de séries de TV, como Roswell, Leverage,[9] Castle, NCIS: Los Angeles, Burn Notice, Falling Skies e recentemente Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. e The Librarians.

Jonathan também faz workshops, e leciona no Waterfall Arts Center e no the Saltwater Film Society, ambos no Maine, dando aulas de direção de filmes. Ele e a esposa tinham uma loja de móveis, em Belfast, Maine, chamada The Cherished Home, fechada em 2012 pela falta de tempo de Genie em administrá-la, enquanto atuava.[10]
