Rennesøy kommune var en kommune i Rogaland frem til 1. januar 2020 da den ble slått sammen med Finnøy kommune og Stavanger kommune. Kommunen lå i Boknafjorden og bestod av de bebodde øyene Rennesøy, Mosterøy, Fjøløy, Sokn, Bru, Vestre Åmøy, Klosterøy og Brimse, samt en rekke ubebodde øyer. Kommunens høyeste punkt var Hodnafjellet,[4] 233,6 moh.[3], beliggende helt sør på Rennesøy.

Rennesøy kommune grenset til Stavanger, Randaberg, Kvitsøy, Finnøy og Bokn kommune. Åmøy var delt mellom to kommuner, der Austre Åmøy tilhørte Stavanger kommune og vestre Åmøy tilhørte Rennesøy kommune frem til 01.01.20. Etter kommunesammenslåingen er hele Åmøy en del av Stavanger kommune. Kommuneadministrasjonen til Rennesøy kommune holdt til i Vikevåg, som også var kommunens største tettsted.
Rennesøy kommune fikk sine endelige grenser i kommunesammenslåingen i 1965 da de tidligere kommunene Mosterøy og Rennesøy ble slått sammen. Kommunen hadde 4 447 innbyggere 1. april 2012. Rennesøy var de siste år før kommunesammenslåingen den kommunen i landet som har hadde høyest prosentvis befolkningsvekst.[5] Dette kunne i stor grad knyttes til fastlandsforbindelsen i 1992 og til slutten på bompengeinnkrevingen i 2006.
På Klosterøy finner man Utstein kloster, som mest sannsynlig er bygd på stedet der Harald Hårfagres kongsgård sto, det er nevnt i Heimskringla som en av hans fem kongsgårder på Vestlandet. Klosteret var ferdig bygd omkring 1260, men med en historie som strekker seg tilbake til 800-tallet. På Mosterøy finner man også Utstein Kloster Hotell.
Veiforbindelsen er E39 som gjennom en undersjøisk tunnel, Rennfast, knytter Rennesøy til Randaberg og Stavanger. Alle de bebodde øyene i kommunen utenom Brimse er knyttet sammen med broer og undersjøiske tunneler.
Arkeologisk er Rennesøy kjent for Galtafunnene.
Rennesøy kommunes tusenårssted lå i tilknytning til et gravsted nær Vikevåg sentrum. Det er et opparbeid areal som også bebyggelsen i nærområdet har glede og nytte av.
