Hariharalaya (khmer: ហរិហរាល័យ) var en historisk by og hovedstad i Khmerriket som lå i nærheten av Siem Reap, Kambodsja i et område som i dag kalles Roluos. I dag er alt som er igjen av byen ruinene av flere kongelige templer: Preah Ko, Bakong og Lolei.
Navnet Hariharalaya er avledet fra navnet på Harihara, en Hinduguddom fremtredende i pre-Angkoriansk Kambodsja. Navnet Harihara er sammensatt av Hari (som betyr den hinduistiske guden Vishnu) og hara (som betyr den hinduistiske guden Shiva). Kambodsjanske framstillinger av Harihara var av en mannlig guddom som på én side bar attributtene til Vishnu, og på den andre siden bar attributtene til Shiva. For eksempel, guddomens hodeplagg besto av en Miter-type lue (typisk for Vishnu) på den ene siden og så krøllete hårlokker (typisk for Shiva) på den andre.
Mot slutten av det 8. århundre beseiret den kambodsjanske kongen Jayavarman II enorme landområder i nærheten av den store innsjøen Tonle Sap. I alle fall deler av denne tiden hadda han sin hovedstad på Hariharalaya. Men da han erklærte seg selv for universell monark av landet i 802 gjorde han ikke dette i Hariharalaya, men på et sted på Kulenplatået. Senere returnerte han hovedstaden til Hariharalaya, der han døde i 835.[1]
Jayavarman II ble etterfulgt av Jayarvarman III og deretter Indravarman I, som var ansvarlig for byggingen av det kongelige tempelfjellet kjent som Bakong. Indravarman I innviet tempelets dominerende religiøse symbol, et lingam kalt Sri Indresvara (navnet er en kombinasjon av kongens navn med Shiva) i 881. Indravarman I konstruert også det mye mindre tempelet som i dag kalles Preah Ko («hellig okse»), innviet i 880. I 889, ble Indravarman I etterfulgt av sin sønn Yasovarman I, som bygget et tempel for Lolei (navnet kan være et moderne misoppfatning av «Hariharalaya»). Yasovarman grunnla også en ny by i området Angkor Thom nord for det moderne Siem Reap og kalte den Yasodharapura. Yasovarman gjorde den nye byen til sin hovedstad og bygde et nytt kongelig tempelfjell der, kjent som Phnom Bakheng. Yasodharapura overlevde fram til 1170-tallet, da den ble lagt i grus av en invaderende hær fra Champa.[2]
