Den blå Nil (amharisk: ዓባይ, Tis Abay) er en av de to store elver som utgjør Nilen. De renner til slutt sammen i Khartoum i Sudan. Den andre kalles Den hvite Nil.
Den blå Nil har sin kilde i Tanasjøen i Etiopia. Det er en regulering av Tanasjøen ved Tana Beles-demningen under utbygging. Etiopiere har tradisjonelt identifisert Den blå Nil som den bibelske elven Gihon som det fortelles om i Første Mosebok.[1][2]
Den blå Nil har sitt navn grunnet oversvømmelsene i sommermonsun eroderer mengder av fruktbar jord fra det etiopiske høylandet og frakter med seg nedstrøms som silt og løs sedimentmasse. Det får vannet til bli mørkt brunt eller bortimot svart.[3] På det lokale språket er ordet svart også benyttet for fargen blå.
