Tamar (kornisk: Dowr Tamar)[1] er ei elv i det sørvestlige England. Den har sitt utspring omkring 6 km fra nordkysten av Cornwall, men renner sørover. Den renner ut i fjorden Hamoaze, hvorfra den sammen med elvene Lynher og St Germans renner ut i Plymouthsundet.

Den markerer i all hovedsak grensen mellom grevskapene Devon og Cornwall. Det er noen unntak, som landsbyen Bridgerule på «kornisk» side som tilhører Devon. Den moderne administrative grensen følger elven strengere enn den gamle tradisjonelle grensen, og flere landsbyer nord for Launceston, som ligger vest for Tamar, tilhørte Devon inntil 1960-årene.
Den viktigste sideelva er Tavy.
Navnet Tamar (eller Tamare) var nevnt av den greske geografen Klaudios Ptolemaios i hans verk Geografika. Navnet er sagt å bety «stort vann».[2][3][4] Navnet har muligens samme opprinnelse som Themsen.
