Rødven stavkirke ligger i Rødven, en bygd i Rauma kommune i Møre og Romsdal. Det er eneste gjenværende stavkirken i Romsdal. Den ligger lavt i terrenget nær Rødvenfjorden.[1]

Kirken er antatt bygd rundt 1300, men de eldste delene, blant annet noen planker og utskjæringer, er fra 1100-tallet. Kirken har gjennomgått flere forandringer i tidens løp.[1] Den ble overtatt av Fortidsminneforeningen i 1907 etter at et nytt kapell var reist like ved (Rødven kapell).
Rødven stavkirke er av den såkalte Møre-typen. Den kjennetegnes av at kirkene har mellomstaver i ytterveggene og tverrgående bjelker som binder stavleiene sammen. Det er bare bevart to stavkirker av denne typen, Rødven stavkirke og Kvernes stavkirke. Disse kirkene har også utvendige skorder som bidrar til en avstivning av bygningskonstruksjonen. Rødven stavkirke er kledd med liggende panel og taket har takstein. Skipet og koret har samme bredde, omkring 6,4 m, men taket på koret er noe lavere enn på skipet. Koret ble reist på 1600-tallet. Opprinnelig var koret en del smalere.
Under et kraftig uvær i 1689 ble takrytteren helt ødelagt da deler av taket og takrytteren blåste på fjorden. De verste skadene ble reparert etter kort tid. Thomas von Westen, prest i Veøy 1709-1716, sørget for større utbedring og ombygging.[1] Dagens takrytter er fra tidlig 1700-tall.
Under Håkon Christies arkeologisk utgravning i 1962 – 1963 ble det funnet merker etter jordgravne stolper fra en eldre stolpekirke på stedet. Senere ble det påvist spor av bosetning og graver fra jernalder og romertid nær kirken.[2]
I middelalderen var den først annekskirke til Veøy og avlastet denne ved å være kirke for folket omkring Rødvenfjorden. Kirkestedet ligger i dag lite sentralt ved ferdsel over land, men med reise sjøveien, som var det viktigste i middelaldern, var stedet sentralt for bygdene rundt. Kirkestedet er synlig fra båt eller fra andre siden av Rødvenfjorden. Kirkestedet nevens første gang i Trondhjems Reformats 1589. Kirkens nordportal har pilastre med romanske detaljer som Christie daterer til tidlig 1100-tall. Disse pilastrene og deler av veggene kan være fra en eldre kirke, mens den nåværende er datert til 1300-tallet. Det er også funnet mynter fra 1100-tallet.[2]
