Nukleotid

Nukleotider er mest kjent som byggesteiner i nukleinsyremolekyler (DNA og RNA), og består av en nitrogenbase koblet sammen med et sukkermolekyl (ribose i RNA og deoksyribose i DNA) og et eller flere fosfation. Nitrogenbasene heter adenin (A), cytosin (C), guanin (G), uracil (U) og tymin (T) – de tre første er felles for DNA og RNA, mens uracil (U) er spesifikk for RNA og tymin (T) for DNA.

I tillegg til sin rolle i oppbygningen av nukleinsyrer spiller nukleotider ulike viktige roller i stoffskiftet: som energikilde (adenosintrifosfat (ATP) og guanosintrifosfat (GTP)), som signalmolekyler i cellene (syklisk AMP og syklisk GMP), og som viktige komponenter I kofaktorer of enzymatic reactions (koenzym A, FAD, flavin mononucleotide (FMN), NAD og NADP ).[1]
