Mathnawi eller Masnavi (persisk مثنوی معنوی ; tyrisk Mesnevi) er en omfattende diktsyklus; skrevet på 1260-tallet av den persiske dikteren og sufi-læreren Jalal al-Din Rumi (1207–1273)
Verket består av 6 bøker, og i alt 25 000 vers, eller 50 000 linjer. Det omtales gjerne som «Koranen på persisk tungemål».[1]
I et hverdagsnært bildespråk, med lignelser hentet fra bord og åker, fremstiller Rumi kjernen i sufismens forståelse av islam: å sanse den usynlige verden, og være ett med Skaperen.
Boken ble skrevet mot slutten av Rumis liv, i samarbeid med hans sekretær Husam al-Din. Arbeidet med første bok begynte mellom 1256 og 1262, mens annen bok ble påbegynt mellom november 1263 og oktober 1264. Verket henter anekdoter, motiver og tema fra mange, eldre klassiske tekster, både innen islam og fra andre sammenhenger. Det skal, for eksempel, finnes 35 sitater fra eller referanser til Fuglenes forsamling.
