Luftperspektiv eller atmosfærisk perspektiv er den virkningen atmosfæren har på gjenstander sett på lang avstand. Med økende avstand får gjenstanden mindre kontrast (også mot omgivelsene), fargene blir lysere og mindre mettet og fargene får preg av bakgrunnsfargen (som regel blålig).[1]
I bildekunst (særlig landskapsbilder) brukes luftperspektiv til å gi en illusjon av dybde.[2] Luftperspektiv skyldes hovedsakelig at dagslyset spres av den mellomliggende luften. Jo mer vanndamp og støv det er i luften desto mer spres lyset. I tørt klima er det lite luftperspektiv og omrissene blir hardere og fargene skarpere.[3] På kalde, tørre dager om vinteren når atmosfæren er helt klar er det lite luftperspektiv og fjell langt borte kan føles nær. Varme farger som rødt, oransje og gult absorberes lettest av atmosfæren slik at disse fargene forbindes med det som er nær betrakteren, mens blå og grønne toner forbindes med fjerne ting. Luftperspektivet blir sterkere når landskapet betraktes mot solen.[1] Fargeskarpheten, detaljklarhet og kontrast avtar proporsjonalt med avstanden til betrakteren. Perspektiv er en annen måte å skape dybdevirkning i et todimensjonalt bilde og bygger på at gjenstander lenger unna fremstår som mindre slik at linjene synes å løpe sammen i det fjerne.[4]
Rembrandt brukte blant luftperspektiv i «St. Paul-katedralen i London» (1640).[4] Den norske bildekunstneren Nikolai Astrup brukte ikke luftperspektiv noe som bidrar til å gjøre forgrunn og bakgrunn til likeverdige komponenter i hans bilder.[5]
Ved fotografering forsterkes luftperspektivet ved bruk av teleobjektiv.[6] Fargede filter eller polarisasjonsfilter kan forsterke eller dempe luftperspektivet.[7]
