Kitinen er en elv i finsk Lappland, og en av sideelvene til Kemi älv. Den har sitt utspring i vannskillet mellom kommunene Kittilä og Sodankylä og renner sørover gjennom Sodankylä. Ved Pelkosenniemi renner Kitinen sammen med Kemi älv. Kitinen er 235 kilometer lang.[1]

Langs Kitinen ligger det syv vannkraftverk. I øvre del av Kitinenvassdraget i Sodankylä kommune ligger den kunstige innsjøen Porttipahta. Vannstandsreguleringen medfører at arealet av innsjøen varierer mellom 34 og 214 km².
