Bøler kirke sto ferdig i august 2011. Den ble bygget på samme sted som den forrige kirken, ved Bølerbekkens nedre, åpne løp, like opp for Den Norske Eterfabrikk og Østensjøvannet.

Det nye kirkebygget er resultat av en åpen internasjonal arkitektkonkurranse i 2004, der et forslag med motto: «Punctus contra punctum» vant. Bak forslaget sto Hansen/Bjørndal arkitekter AS og Trifolia Landskapsarkitekter DA. Anlegget består av tre deler, hvor kirkesalen ligger mot syd, en konfirmantsal i midten og et lite kapell i nord. Utsmykningen bak alteret er laget av billedkunstner Thomas Hestvold.
Oslo småkirkeforening engasjerte seg sterkt i arbeidet med å skaffe egnede kirkebygg i drabantbyene som tok til å vokse frem etter andre verdenskrig. Det resulterte i en rekke flyttbare interimkirker i Aker.[1] Den første Bøler kirke var kun ment å være midlertidig, men ble stående i hele 50 år. Denne var opprinnelig satt opp som del av Landbruksutstillingen på Ekeberg i 1959, men ble senere demontert og flyttet som provisorisk arbeidskirke til Bøler, hvor den ble innviet 11. september 1960.
Kirken hadde vifteform og var bygd i tre. Den hadde 250 plasser, men kunne i påkommende tilfeller åpnes fra kirkerommet mot menighetssalen, slik at den kunne utvides til å gi 400 sitteplasser. Dette var mulig fordi hele rommet var bygget i ett med kirkeskipet.
Bøler kirke ble revet høsten 2009 for å gi plass til et nytt kirkebygg på samme tomt.
Klokketårnet ble reist av stokker fra Land og kirkeklokkene er fra tidligere Vaterlands kirke, som var oppført i 1899. Denne var nemlig blitt revet alt i 1959 for å avgi tomt i anledning forberedelsene til T-baneutbyggingen. Kirkeklokka var blitt laget ved «O. Olsen Klokkestøberi Nauen Tønsberg 1898». På klokkene var det gravert inn Bibelstedet; «Bed og arbeid».
Den første soknepresten i Bøler kirke var senere prost Leif Martinsen (far til senere utenriksminister og ambassadør Knut Vollebæk).[2]
Det har vært flere kirkeasylanter i Bøler kirke. I 1994 bodde en familie på fem fra Kosovo i kirken i tre måneder før asylsøkerne ble sendt til Sverige, og etterhvert også tilbake til hjemlandet.[3] I 1997 fikk Bøler kirke en mer omdiskutert asylant da en narkotikadømt pakistaner søkte tilflukt i kirken, da han skulle utvises etter å ha sonet en dom på seks år. Biskop Andreas Aarflot anmodet da menigheten om å be pakistaneren forlate kirken, men sogneprest Thor Evje avviste anmodningen med den begrunnelse «et kirkeasyl må gjelde for alle mennesker. Jesus sorterte aldri mennesker».[4] Avgjørelsen ble kritisert av Oslo Fremskrittsparti[5], men ble samtidig støttet av Høyres Inge Lønning.[6] Kirkeasylantens opphold førte til at politiet nektet konfirmantene våren 1998 å benytte kirken til undervisning.[7] I januar 2000 ble pakistaneren pågrepet av politiet på kirketrappen,[8] og deretter sendt tilbake til Pakistan.[9]
