Frisør (fra fransk)[1] er en yrkesbenevnelse på en person som friserer, klipper, pleier og styler (ordner og setter opp) hår. Lenge ble utøverne omtalt som barber eller barberer, en betegnelse som i Norge fram til 1934 ble brukt som yrkestittel for herrefrisører,[2] fagpersoner som klipper gutter og menn og barberer og steller skjegg.
Faget har sin opprinnelse i et eldre håndverk, bartskjærerfaget, et fag som i tillegg til klipp og stell av hår og skjegg inntil 1800-tallet også omfattet medisinsk behandling som årelating, tannuttrekking, sårbehandling og liknende. På 1900-tallet var yrket spesialisert etter kjønn, herrefrisør som klipte gutter og menn, og damefrisør, og utdannelsen var noe ulik.
I Norge i dag er utdannelsen til dette yrket innen utdanningsprogrammet Design og håndverk, og består av to år på skole og deretter to år lære i bedrift. Første skoleåret er Vg1 design og håndverk og andre skoleåret er Vg2 frisør.[3]
