Al-Muqaddimah er en bok fra 1377 av den arabiske historikeren Ibn Khaldūn (1332-1406). Boken er opprinnelig skrevet som en introduksjon og metodebeskrivelse til hans omfattende historieverk Kitab al-Ibar («Boken om lærdommene»), men «fordi forfatteren vil gi en uttømmende analyse av samfunnet, ender han opp med å beskrive i detalj hele den islamske sivilisasjonens kultur.»[1] Al-Muqaddimah har derfor lenge vært betraktet som et selvstendig verk, og som en tidlig metodisk introduksjon til fag som samfunnsøkonomi, historiefaglig metode, demografi og sosiologi.[2] Bjørsnes sier at «Khaldūn inndeler vitenskapene og beskriver deres formål og metoder.»[1]
Boken utkom på norsk i 2012, i serien Bokklubbens Kulturbibliotek.[3][4][5][6]
