The Corries

The Corries var ei skotsk folkemusikkgruppe som utvikla seg under gjenopplivinga av tradisjonsmusikken på 1960-talet.^[1] Gruppa er best kjend for å ha laga den uoffisielle skotske nasjonalsangen «Flower of Scotland». Gruppa bestod av Roy Williamson (25. juni 1936-12. august 1990) og Ronnie Browne (f. 1938).

Historie

Williamson og Browne møtte kvarandre i 1955 på College of Art i Edinburgh. Dei skipa The Corries. I 1974 gav dei ut singelen «Flower of Scotland», som fekk stor suksess og var med på å gjera gruppa populær. Singelen inneheldt to hyllingssongar til Skottland, ein skriven av Williamson («Flower of Scotland») og ein skriven av Browne («The Roses of Prince Charlie»). Begge blei til klassikarar i Skottland, og gav gruppa stor kommersiell suksess. I 1980-åra fekk The Corries sitt eige tv-program.

I 1989 byrja helsa til Williamson å bli dårligere, og han fekk konstatert ein vondarta hjernesvulst. 12. august 1990 døydde han. Browne fortsette som solist med songane til gruppa. I 2002 bestemte han seg for å pensjonera seg.
