Montmartre er eit bystrok i Paris i Frankrike, på ein kolle, la butte Montmartre. Det høgste punktet på naturleg markoverflate i byen, 130,53 moh., ligg her: gravplassen attmed kyrkja Saint-Pierre de Montmartre.

Mange kjende biletkunstnarar, forfattarar, teaterfolk- og filmfolk, skodespelarar, musikarar og andre viktige personar har budd eller bur på Montmartre. Montmartre er elles vidgjeten for å ha vore ein samlingsstad for kjende biletkunstnarar som Pissarro, Toulouse-Lautrec, Steinlen, van Gogh, Modigliani, Picasso og fleire på 1800- og 1900-hundretalet. Men etter kvart tok kunstnarane heller til å samle seg i stroket Montparnasse på den sida av elva Seinen som i Paris heiter venstre breidd (rive gauche).
Montmartre, som ligg i 18e arrondissement nord i Paris, var fram til 1860 ein eigen landsby som utgjorde mesteparten av kommunen Montmartre i det tidlegare département de la Seine. Med unnatak av ein mindre lut av den gamle kommunen, som då vart lagt til kommunen Saint-Ouen i det som no er departementet Seine-Saint-Denis, vart Montmartre innlemma i Paris og kalla Buttes-Montmartre.
Eit kongeleg benediktinar-nonnekloster, L'abbaye royale de Montmartre, vart skipa her av kong Ludvig (Louis) VI i 1133-1134, nedlagt i 1790, selt i 1794 og rive ned med unnatak av klosterkyrkja, Église Saint-Pierre de Montmartre, som er alt som er att etter klosteret. Denne kyrkja er mellom dei eldste i Paris, og ligg attmed den dominerande katedralen på toppen av Montmartre, Basilique du Sacré-Cœur de Montmartre, frå 1919.
Montmartre var ein av dei viktigaste stadene under Pariskommunen (Commune de Paris) i 1871.[1]
