Sanou speelde tussen 2001 en 2011 voor WSG Wattens, FC Tirol Innsbruck, FC Sion, SC Freiburg, 1. FC Köln en Urawa Red Diamonds. Hij tekende in 2012 bij Kyoto Sanga FC.
