In 2002 werd het 25ste en laatste Torneio Rio-São Paulo gespeeld voor voetbalclubs uit Rio de Janeiro en São Paulo. De competitie werd gespeeld van 19 januari tot 12 mei. Corinthians werd kampioen.
Voor het eerst namen er ook teams uit de staat Rio de Janeiro deel, die niet uit de stad Rio kwamen. Omdat het toernooi steeds moeilijker te organiseren werd met de al drukke kalender werd het na deze editie niet meer georganiseerd.
