In 2017 werd het 40ste Campeonato Carioca Série B1 gespeeld, het tweede hoogste niveau voor voetbalclubs uit de Braziliaanse staat Rio de Janeiro. Het was het eerste seizoen onder de nieuwe naam Série B1. De competitie werd georganiseerd door de FERJ en werd gespeeld van 27 mei tot 30 september. Goytacaz werd kampioen.
Er werden twee toernooien gespeeld, de Taça Santus Dumont en de Taça Corcovado. Beide toernooiwinnaars plaatsten zich voor de finaleronde samen met de twee ploegen die het best presteerde over de twee toernooien, indien dit andere ploegen waren. In het eerste toernooi speelden de clubs tegen de teams uit de eigen groep, in het tweede toernooi tegen de teams uit de andere groep.
