Brown werd geboren in Inglewood en groeide daar ook op. Hij begon zijn carrière in 1993 met twee kleine rolletjes in films, daarna speelde hij nog sporadisch in films. Vanaf 2004 speelde hij ook gastrollen in televisieseries. Zijn eerste grote rollen had hij in 2011 in de series Lights out en Dexter, waarin hij Mike Anderson speelde. Van 2012 tot 2014 speelde hij August Marks in Sons of Anarchy. In 2013 was hij Archer Petit in Hostages. Zijn volgende grote rol kwam in 2014 in de televisiehit How to Get Away with Murder.[1]
