Stephen Sondheim

Stephen Joshua Sondheim (/ˈsɒndhaɪm/ SOND-hyme; 22 Mac 1930 – 26 November 2021) ialah seorang komposer, penulis lagu dan penulis lirik Amerika. Salah seorang tokoh terpenting dalam teater muzikal abad kedua puluh, Sondheim telah dikreditkan kerana telah "mencipta semula muzikal Amerika"^[1] dengan karya yang berkisarkan "tema yang tidak dijangka yang berkisar jauh di luar subjek tradisional [genre]"^[2] dengan "muzik dan lirik dengan kerumitan dan kecanggihan yang belum pernah terjadi sebelumnya".^[3] Rancangannya menyentuh "elemen pengalaman manusia yang lebih gelap, lebih mengerikan",^[4] dengan lagu-lagu yang sering diwarnai dengan "ambivalensi" tentang pelbagai aspek kehidupan.^[5]
