മലയാള സാഹിത്യ സംഭാവനകൾക്ക് നൽകുന്ന പുരസ്കാരമാണ് വയലാർ പുരസ്കാരം[1]. മലയാളത്തിലെ ഒരു കവിയായിരുന്ന വയലാർ രാമവർമ്മയുടെ ഓർമ്മയ്ക്കായിട്ടാണ് ഈ പുരസ്കാരം രൂപവത്കരിച്ചത്. എഴുത്തുകാരും സാംസ്കാരിക നായകന്മാരും അടങ്ങുന്ന സമിതി നിർദ്ദേശിക്കുന്ന കൃതികളിൽ നിന്ന് വീണ്ടും തിരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് നടത്തിയാണ് വയലാർ അവാർഡ് നിശ്ചയിക്കുന്നത്. സർഗസാഹിത്യത്തിനുള്ള ഈ അവാർഡ് 1977 നൽകിയത്. എല്ലാ വർഷവും ഒക്ടോബർ 27 അവാർഡ് നൽകുന്നത്.[2]. വയലാർ അവാർഡിൻറെ സമ്മാനതുക ഒരു ലക്ഷം രൂപയും, കാനായി കുഞ്ഞിരാമൻ വെങ്കലത്തിൽ തീർത്ത ശില്പവുമാണ് പുരസ്കാരം. 2014 വരെ 25000 രൂപയായിരുന്നു.
